Nasir Jones (n. 14 septembrie 1973), cunoscut sub numele său de scenă Nas, în trecut Nasty Nas, este un actor și un rapper american. Este considerat ca fiind unul dintre fondatorii East Coast Rapului. S-a născut și a crescut în Queensbridge. Deși a renunțat la școală, are un înalt simț al literaturii și filozofiei, simț pe care îl va folosi în versurile sale.

Nas a semnat cu Columbia Records în anul 1994, când a lansat albumul său de debut, Illmatic. Nas a facut parte din grupul The Firm, alături de care a lansat un album. Nas a primit numele de Nasir (“ajutor și protector”). Și-a petrecut primii ani din viață în Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Tatăl sau, Olu Dara, a fost un cântăreț de jazz, iar mama sa, Fannie Ann Jones lucra la poștă. Are un singur frate: Jabari Fret, cunoscut și sub numele de Jungle.

Mai târziu s-au mutat în Queensbridge. La vârsta de 13 ani, tatăl său i-a părăsit. După puțin timp, Nas a renunțat la școală. S-a educat singur citind despre cultura și civilizația Africii și originea Hip-Hop-ului.
